This survey was designed for the opening of Zoo Boise’s newest exhibit at the time, focused on the species and ecosystem of Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique. A large part of the project to open this new exhibit area was designing and implementing interactive signage and stations throughout the area to help guests engage with the animals and habitats. This was a new way of designing exhibit spaces for Zoo Boise, so this survey was developed to measure how guests were perceiving the change in exhibit design.
For those wishing to use or apply this survey to your own contexts, staff at Zoo Boise with experience using this resource recommend keeping survey fatigue front of mind. Several of the guests who were surveyed only partially completed the survey. They found that offering the survey at a table with coloring pages or activities for younger guests helped increase survey return rate. Surveys were conducted by hand, but it is recommended using online tools like ZooMonitor or Jotform – both for ease of taking and collecting surveys.
