Learning group: Using empathy to tell better conservation focused stories (part I and II)

Minnesota Zoo, Racine Zoo, Zoological Society of Milwaukee

ACE for Wildlife® Network • December 2025

At our 2025 Empathy Summit, we learned about the importance of crafting a good story from keynote speaker Luis Ortega. The impacts of their presentation have stuck with us. Part one of this learning group examines how individuals and organizations can determine which conservation stories are the ones they tell, with examples from speakers at the Minnesota Zoo, Racine Zoo, and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee.

In part two, we focus on how to use of empathy in the crafting and telling of the stories themselves.
